playing with the poetic of space
Since 2000, the Madrid-born artist Mar Solis (1967), a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the University Complutense of Madrid, in the specialty of sculpture, has been involved in exhibitions at the Centro Cultural Conde Duque, at La Casa Encendida and in the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, as well as the Museum Barjola in Gijón, and she is a winner of several awards for her work, creations which are already part of important collections such as the IVAM in Valencia and Caixa Galicia.
The artist has admitted on more than one occasion a particular admiration for one of her teachers, Martín Chirino, the precursor to an abstract sculpture that plays, the same thing that happens to sea, with the poetics of space. She broadens her references with Chillida, Oteiza y Eva Lootz.
She is known for her stylized sculptures in wood and her work can be found in places such as the parks of outdoor sculpture of Kasklauttanen, Lapland, and South Korea, as well as in the Ministry of Environment (Spain).
